Mairzy Doats

Something a little lighter. I created this piece of digital art and for some reason the title of the nonsense song “Mairzy Doats” came to mind.  Although it sounds nonsense, it has actual words which are strung together the way kids do. I remember when I was at the Catholic Convent as a child, for example, that one prayer read “to thee we send up our sighs” only I thought it read: “to thee we send up our size” and I used to wonder why anyone in heaven would want to know how tall I was!

And here are a couple of versions of Mairzy Doats:

  1. You went to Catholic school? Have we talked about that before?!!!! (send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears – etched forever in my mind – along with the stations of the cross repeated twice weekly during lent for 12 years).

  2. Yes, I’ve ranted about my Catholic upbringing) with Irish nuns in the ‘fifties, if you can imagine it. A cheerless, unhappy childhood. They were just as glad to see the back of me as I was to see the back of them because they never managed to break me and turn me into a good little potential Catholic childhood. We used to go once a year during Lent to some sort of sacred site and I used to hate it. At 11 my parents gave me the choice of a senior convent or the local grammar school. No brainer!

  3. OH, Mo, you are precious. LOVE your art!!! You lifted my Heart and yes, I listened to this song. I laughed at your question about size. Tee hee ….. Just like a kid! Have a great Sunday! Love, Amy

  4. Mo!!! You have given me the biggest smile 🙂 What timing….Just the other day I started singing this song…My Mom used to sing it….but I only remembered the first couple of lines. Mairzy Doats and Dozey Doats and little Lamsy Divey… My girlfriend then sang the whole song and I was astonished!!!! I had no idea and I have not been able to get the song out of my head since then….and then here you go and post it!!! Just love the synchonicity….and I love your art piece too….and I love you!!! ❤ ❤

      1. I called my Mom and started singing it to her…she just joined right in and we had a beautiful moment remembering singing it many years ago! Thank you for the super wonderful memory 🙂 ❤
