Tyger, Tyger, Burning Bright….. Art Every Day Month November 7

In Woodenbong I created a mandala of a tiger which pleased me immensely as it was the first time I’d ever drawn an animal and it actually looked like that animal!

So I decided to return to that mandala, cut out the tiger image and work with it.  This is the result: Tyger, Tyger, Burning Bright, from William Blake’s poem:

Tyger, Tyger, Burning Brightt
Tyger, Tyger, Burning Brightt

The Tyger

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!
When the stars threw down their spears
And water’d heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
– William Blake, 1757-1827.

  1. Thanks, Tammy, I’m not sure what’s happening but even though wordpress.com says your comments aren’t coming through, they’re turning up okay on my website. It is, now I come to think of it, Mercury Retrograde drawing to a close!
